Metro Detroit communities were rocked Tuesday afternoon after a severe thunderstorm swept through the area bringing torrential rain, damaging winds, and hail. Multiple reports of roads covered in water came in shortly after the storm hit around 3 p.m. Interstate I-75 at 7 Mile Road in Detroit was one of the affected areas with a freeway closure in effect. Residents from Lake Michigan to Lake St. Clair are waking up to debris, and in some areas, destruction, as a line of severe storms raced across Michigan’s Lower Peninsula overnight. Weather officials say Michigan has already beat their annual average of tornados for 2025.
