Our wild rose- rosa multiflora- is plentiful during the fall and winter. The hips feed the local ecosystem during the depths of winter. It’s rich source of vitamin C and other essential vitamins and minerals make it a lovely addition to food and medicine. Since this variety is invasive you can find it pretty easily and gather plentifully. Let’s also talk about how to distinguish the invasive Multiflora Rose (Rosa multiflora) from some of our native wild roses like Climbing Rose (Rosa setigera) and Swamp Rose (Rosa paulustris). The native roses tend to have pink coloration to their petals vs multiflora’s white petals.
