That would be the upcoming rivalry between the Russo brothers' Avengers: Doomsday (the Disney-owned Marvel Studios) and Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Three (Warner Bros.)—both of which are currently slated for a wide theatrical release on Dec. 18, 2026.

Avengers: Doomsday reopens Thor: Love and Thunder debate
Thor: Love and Thunder is streaming on Disney+; Avengers: Doomsday lands in theaters on Dec. 18, 2026. Now that Thor Odinson (Chris Hemsworth) has officially made his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe trailer in an Avengers: Doomsday trailer, debate about his last cinematic outing as the God of Thunder has sparked online.
Doomsday' trailer features Chris Hemsworth's Thor praying to his late father, the Norse god Odin, ahead of battle.
The second Avengers: Doomsday trailer is now online, featuring the mighty Thor in a very somber teaser for next year's MCU tentpole. Like the Steve Rogers Doomsday teaser before it, it shows an Avenger in full-on dad mode, this time pleading to the All-Fathers for strength to defeat an unnamed enemy and to return home to his child, Love.
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo wrote on Instagram: “When even a god has to pray for strength.” This marks the return of RDJ to Marvel after he famously played Tony Stark/Iron Man over the course of numerous MCU films. In Doomsday, however, he is playing classic villain Doctor Doom.
