Texas has experienced above-average temperatures lately, but that could change this weekend amid a cold front with chances of snow.
The Texas Panhandle is set to see the first of this frigid air blowing in from the north. By Thursday night, January 8, snow is slated to start blanketing the region. Through the next 24 hours, icy flakes will continue to fall as temperatures plummet to well below freezing.
Farther south, impacts will be less dramatic. By the time the front reaches Central and Southeast Texas, much of its punch will have weakened. Still, Texans farther south can expect a cooler, breezier weekend, even if winter weather stays well to the north.
Isolated severe storms are possible late Wednesday through Friday, with large hail, strong winds and an isolated tornado possible.

Southeast Texas will feel the effects of the cold front early Monday morning, as high temperatures begin to fall into the 40s and 50s. The NWS in Houston-Galveston even anticipated some showers and thunderstorms possible Sunday night as the front comes in. High winds above 25 mph are likely across parts of the region as the temperature drops.
