Hamnet was nominated alongside Frankenstein, It Was Just an Accident, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value and Sinners. Shortly before Hamnet ‘s win, star Jessie Buckley won for her performance as Agnes in the film. One Battle After Another won the best motion picture comedy or musical award.
Bugonia, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Jay Kelly, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another and Sentimental Value were up for Best Picture Drama.
Buckley is the first Irish person to win in the category. During her speech, the actress paid homage to the diversity behind the camera on a film that showcases the domestic life of the British playwright. She also thanked her cast and crew from Zhao and the book’s author Maggie O’Farrell to Jacobi and Noah Jupe and Emily Watson.
Other films with multiple nominations, including five-time nominee 'Wicked: For Good' and four-time nominee 'It Was Just an Accident,' also went home empty handed.
The Hamnet-inspired walking trail starts in Weobley, taking visitors through areas where it was filmed, across green fields and through country lanes, ending in Pembridge, another village famed for its black-and-white timber-framed buildings and which is a two hour walk away.
