Former Detroit Red Wings Hall of Fame forward Sergei Fedorov has penned a heartfelt love letter to the fans of Hockeytown on the eve of his jersey retirement ceremony.
Fedorov was in Detroit in November as the Wings celebrated their 100th anniversary as an organization. Fedorov called the jersey retirement a "tremendous honor" and said memories and emotions have flooded him.
Fedorov, one of the greatest two-way players in franchise history for 13 seasons from 1990-91 to 2002-03, helped the team win three Stanley Cups. He won the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP in 1994 and is a two-time winner of the Selke Trophy as the league’s top defensive forward.

With age comes wisdom, as the saying goes. And for Sergei Fedorov, like with so many former pro athletes, it comes with a touch of wistfulness as well.

Red Wings goaltender John Gibson picked up his third shutout of the season on Saturday to lift Detroit back to first place in the Eastern Conference. He stopped 27 shots in the 4-0 victory over the Canadiens in Montreal, earning his 27th career shutout along the way.
